Q. Who is eligible to participate in N.B.A.: 40 Lawyers under 40?
A. ELIGIBLE NOMINEES MUST BE:

• A duly licensed attorney in good standing in at least one (1) jurisdiction
• 40 years of age and under as of August 2010
• Members of the NBA Board of Governors, NBA-YLD Board Members, Event Host Committee, and NBA Staff are NOT eligible to participate.

Q. What is the purpose of the N.B.A.: 40 Lawyers under 40?
A. The purpose of this prestigious award is to recognize talented individuals (age 40 and under) within the African American legal community who have achieved prominence and distinction in their fields—be it the practice of law, academia, business, civic and charitable affairs, the judiciary, or politics—and have demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering, uplifting, and advocating for the African American community.

Q. What are the criteria for N.B.A.: 40 Lawyers under 40?
A. Winners are chosen based on: achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, and legal community involvement. All nominations will remain confidential absent the express consent of the nominator and the nominee. Only Award recipients will be notified.

Q. What must be submitted for the N.B.A.: 40 Lawyers under 40 nominations process?
A. Nominators must submit the following:

• Biographical sketch;
• Head shot/photo that can be used for online voting;
• Resume;
• Contact information telephone number, email address; and
• You may also include up to two recommendation letters (limited to 350 words or less each), which may include information from the nominator about why this person should be recognized.

Q. What happens with the 40 nominees who are selected for recognition?
A. The profiles of the forty (40) finalists will be posted online in advance of the gala. Individuals will be able to vote for any one finalist for the “Nation’s Best Advocate of the Year” Award based on excellence in the aforementioned values.
