Yvonne Williams is Counsel at Miller & Chevalier Chartered where she litigates primarily employment and employee benefits issues before federal and state courts, as well as administrative agencies. She has defended companies facing challenges to insurance benefits denials, allegations of breach of fiduciary duty, and complaints of employment discrimination. Ms. Williams also conducts and manages internal investigations, in both criminal and civil contexts, for mid-size and multi-national corporations. Before joining private practice, for five years, Ms. Williams was a staff attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia in the Trial and Appellate Divisions. There she represented indigent defendants charged with serious felony, misdemeanor and juvenile offenses in D.C. Superior Court. She has tried more than thirty cases before juries and judges. She also wrote appellate briefs and argued several cases before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Ms. Williams also served as an attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. where she represented plaintiffs in federal individual and class action employment discrimination cases. Ms. Williams graduated from Northeastern University School of Law and earned her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. She is a member of the Judicial Evaluation Committee for the D.C. Bar Association, a member of the Board of Directors for the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia, and President of the Board of Directors for D.C. Law Students in Court. On February 3, 2011, Ms. Williams was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as an Associate Judge on the District of Columbia Superior Court. She will begin her tenure once she is confirmed by the United States Senate.
