At the age of thirty-four (34), Attorney and Judge Errick D. Simmons is the City of Greenville, Mississippi's youngest city councilman, where he serves on the Charter and Ordinance Committee, Public Safety Committee, and Finance Committee. Errick also serves as the municipal court judge for two adjacent municipalities - Sunflower, MS and Moorhead, MS. As judge, Errick adjudicates traffic infractions, misdemeanor matters, sets felony bonds, and conducts preliminary hearing on felony cases. Errick matriculated through Greenville Public Schools where he graduated second in his class at T. L. Weston High School in 1995, second to his twin brother and law partner, Mississippi State Senator Derrick T. Simmons, Esq. Errick later studied at Jackson State University, where he received a Bachelor in Business Administration in Economics in 2000. In 2002, Errick received a Masters in Arts in Economics from Howard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and received his Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law (HUSL) in 2005. As the team captain of the national-acclaimed HUSL Huver I. Brown Trial Advocacy Mock Trial Team, Errick led the team to victory defeating two-time reigning champion Harvard Law School to become the first historically black law school to win the American Bar Association International Mock Trial Competition. After graduation from law school, Errick returned home to Greenville to use his educational preparation, professionalism, passion, and dedication to serve the people of Greenville, the Mississippi Delta, and the South as a whole. Errick, who is licensed to practice law in Mississippi, is the co-founder/co-owner of Simmons & Simmons, PLLC in Greenville (www.simmonspllc.com), a small law firm concentrating on the areas of personal injury, corporate law, criminal defense, family law, and juvenile justice. While believing that our children/youth are our most natural resource, Errick is a certified Youth Court Public Defender and Guardian Ad-Litem in Mississippi. He was appointed by Governor Haley Barbour to serve on a Child Justice Act Task Force in March 2008. As a key proponent of juvenile justice reform, Errick recently received the honor as an Emerging Leader of the Annie E. Casey's Applied Leadership Network, where he collaborates with national juvenile justice experts to solve the problem of juvenile delinquency by reducing the reliance on secure detention and developing alternatives to juvenile secure detention. In service as a trial attorney, businessman, community leader, youth advisor, father, and man of God, Errick continues to forge his place in the hearts of those he serves. Errick is also Youth Mentor of WWISCAA Mentor Program, Board Member of United Way of Washington County, and member of the Southside Neighborhood Association (City of Greenville-Ward 6). Errick is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association; National Bar Association; Magnolia Bar Association; American Bar Association; American Association of Justice; Mississippi Association of Justice; Greenville Rotary Club; Mississippi Leadership Class of 2008, and Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society. Errick is also a proud Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and a mason. Errick sponsors an annual Christmas Toy Give-a-way, providing toys to nearly 300 needy kids in his area. Errick financially contributes to both Jackson State University and Howard University School of Law. Errick is a member of the Greater Springfield Missisionary Baptist Church in Greenville, where Jackie Davis is the Pastor. Errick D. Simmons is married to Dr. Temika M. Simmons, Ph.D. and father of Errick C. Simmons.
