The National Bar Association (NBA) and IMPACT have announced the 2011 class of Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40! This year’s class includes, Professors, Corporate Counsel, Public Defenders and those working hard to make an impact. The 2011 class will be celebrated on July 31, 2011 at the NBA’s 86th Annual Convention in Baltimore, Maryland. Join us in the celebration this year, sponsorship opportunities are still available.
Recipients of all of the following awards MUST be present to receive the award on Sunday, July 31, 2011.
Nation's Best Advocate of the Year Award: This award is for the individual who excels in ALL of the following areas:
- Achievement,
- Innovation,
- Vision,
- Leadership and,
- Legal community involvement.
Excellence in Leadership: This award is for the individual who has a demonstrated record of leadership in the legal field. The award recipient may demonstrate excellence in leadership through any one or more of the following:
- Attaining and excelling in position(s) of leadership in the legal field.
- Mentoring, coaching or serving in similar capacities to foster and encourage the participation and support the success of attorneys in the legal profession, especially young professionals/attorneys of color.
- Leadership within legal organizations and/or associations (including the National Bar Association and its affiliate chapters).
- Other achievements, activities, programs, policies or initiatives that demonstrate leadership.
Excellence in Service: This award is for the individual who has a demonstrated record of service in his/her community and/or nonprofit organization(s). The award recipient may demonstrate excellence in service through any one or more of the following:
- Participation in community or nonprofit activity that advances the cause(s) of individuals and communities in need, especially for disadvantaged individuals and communities.
- Other achievements, activities, programs, policies or initiatives that demonstrate a clear commitment to service, both domestically and abroad.
Excellence in Activism: This award is for the individual who utilizes his/her legal background to advance social change.
- Demonstrated record of leading, facilitating or participating in causes that advance social change, especially for disadvantaged individuals and communities.
- Dedication of career to civil rights, economic empowerment, or other civic and social challenges that impact disadvantaged communities
- Engagement in policy development, implementation and advocacy around legislation designed to improve conditions impacting disadvantaged communities.
- Other achievements, activities, programs, policies or initiatives that demonstrate activism.
Excellence in Innovation: This award is for the individual who has made advancement in the legal field by taking a new approach to the practice of law. In an era of social networking, the award recipient may demonstrate excellence in innovation through any one or more of the following:
- Recognition by peers for new method of practicing law or in marketing his/her practice.
- Leveraging technology or other innovative approaches to demonstrate leadership, service and excellence in the field.
- Other achievements, activities, programs, policies or initiatives that demonstrate innovation.
- Leadership and,
- Legal community involvement.
